    Warsaw Modlin Airport (WMI, ICAO EPMO) stands in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, north-west of the capital, and handles short and medium-haul low-cost flights to European cities alongside charter traffic. Capacity here was assessed at 3 to 3.5 million passengers a year in 2016, the scale of airport you walk out of in minutes rather than trek across.

    The distance is the part nobody plans for. Modlin sits about 40 km from central Warsaw and has no railway station of its own: Koleje Mazowieckie trains reach Modlin station from Warszawa Centralna and Warszawa Gdańska, and a shuttle bus then covers the last stretch to the terminal every 20 minutes. That means two vehicles and two rounds of luggage handling, in each direction. A car booked through the booking form makes it a single ride, with the price for your exact address settled before you pay.

    Some passengers land at Modlin with somewhere else entirely in mind. National road 62 runs past the airport and feeds the S7 expressway, which points at the capital in one direction and Gdansk in the other, so the car that meets your flight can carry straight on to another city or to a hotel two hours away.     How do I get from Modlin Airport to central Warsaw?

    There are four practical answers, and they differ in how many times you handle your bags. By rail you take a Koleje Mazowieckie service as far as Modlin, then the connecting bus that shuttles passengers to the terminal. Direct coaches run into the city and stop in the centre. A taxi covers the whole way in roughly forty minutes. A pre-booked car does the same thing, except it is already waiting when you walk out.

    The last flight of the day gets in near midnight. Will someone be there?

    Yes. Late in the evening the shuttle and the trains thin out and coach departures stop, which is precisely when arriving without arrangements hurts most. We set the pickup against your actual landing time, and a chauffeur is there whether that turns out to be 23:40 or half past two.
